BabyZen Yoyo+ Travel Stroller Review: You can stop googling now, this is the stroller for you.

We’ve just got back from our 2-week adventure in America. We spent a week in my favourite city in the world, New York, and then hit the road through Rhode Island, Boston, New Hampshire and Vermont before finishing up in Brooklyn. We had the most incredible time away and best of all we eloped!! It was magical and relaxed and intimate and a complete and utter surprise for everyone back home!

The lead up to the trip was busy. Between 6-month vaccines, a last-minute iron infusion for me (thanks pregnancy), secret wedding dress shopping and just general life shenanigans it was understandably a hectic time. The packing also took up so much time and energy. How does one pack for multiple temperatures, with a baby and potentially weeks between washing machines?! I’ll be the first to admit that this was the first time I have ever traveled with a Sard Wonder Stick. It won’t be the last…

I didn’t want to be lugging our giant pram around and I’d heard magical things about the world of travel strollers. It was a world I delved into wholeheartedly and I deliberated over the purchase for weeks. Why so much stress about a stroller I hear you ask? Well, firstly let me say that you sound like my husband, and secondly because, well, they’re not cheap and I had no idea what to expect in terms of our needs and desires whilst away. This was new to me.

I looked at the Baby Jogger City Tour 2, which I liked a lot as it lies almost completely flat and I wanted Baby P to sleep whilst strolling. I also looked at the Mountain Buggy Nano which quite a few of my friends recommended. People also raved about the BabyZen Yoyo but it comes with a heftier price tag. I was that person that got a babysitter so I could go to Baby Bunting and Kiddie Country without the babe. I also then made extra trips with the babe to try her in them. I folded them up, I folded them down. I folded them up, I folded them down. Then I folded them some more.

So, long story short….the MVP of the holiday award goes to………THE BABYZEN YOYO+!! I actually joined a Facebook group page called Babyzen Yoyo Buy, Swap and Chat. This is clearly such a cult product that it warrants its own Facebook group. I posted that I was looking for a second-hand Yoyo and I was lucky enough to find one. As it turns out, second-hand ones are rare because people don’t want to get rid of them and now, I know why!!!!

Here are some fun facts about the stroller:

It’s lightweight

It only weighs max 6.6kg and we could wheel it straight onto the plane. This meant that Baby P could sleep in the comfort of her pram whilst we waited to board. In fact, her first sleep in it was in the Qantas Business Class lounge. I’ve told her not to get used to it.

It’s surprisingly sturdy

We walked roughly 12km a day across New York (don’t worry, we made up for it with plenty of bagels and Shake Shack). The Yoyo+ was effortless to steer, and easy to fold even with a much-needed Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew in hand – Thanks Starbucks!

Perfect for all ages & sizes.

Baby P turned 6 months old just before we left for NYC. Technically she would be in the forward-facing stroller part, however, I am one of those needy Mothers who loves seeing her babe at all times. I also wanted her to sleep, and I know she sleeps better lying flat than sitting up. Duh! Who doesn’t!? So, a very kind friend lent us their newborn nest attachment and it was amazing. Luckily Baby P isn’t too gigantic for her age, so she still fit in it, albeit a snug fit. She also loved forward facing and the pram was easy for Mr Sleep Concierge to convert between the two styles. His advice though is to pack a screwdriver.

It has accessories!

Who doesn’t love accessories?!? This was one of the things that got me over the line with the Yoyo+ vs the other travel strollers. I love that in the future we can add a toddler scooter for when Baby P becomes Toddler P and there may be another baby in the pram. It also has the option for the Rolling Bag attachment. This was highly recommended to me by a lovely friend who had taken her 3 little girls overseas recently. This bag was a life saver and meant that we were hands free across America. It was worth every cent. If you’re thinking about buying one, I’m here to tell you to just do it. This same generous friend lent us her backpack carry bag for the Yoyo+ which was so useful. Basically, anything that allows you to be hands free whilst travelling is a necessity.

So, we’re now a family with two prams and I’m not mad about it. Since returning to Melbourne it has become my ‘car pram’.

The best part of it all? Even my husband rates it! About 3 days into the trip after multiple walks up and down the subway stairs, he leaned over and told me how much he loves the pram. That, ladies and gentlemen, is all you need to know.
